Straddling that difference is going to be difficult for Evernote users. Darren Austin, OneNote’s director of product management, said some OneNote users like the product's structure because its notebook-tab-page design convention is something they can easily grasp and are able to adopt quickly. But that only works so well, because notes can have multiple tags in Evernote while OneNote only allows them to live under one tab. There’s an option to use Evernote tags as tabs in OneNote notebooks, which should have meant that all my notes tagged as “Article Draft” were put under one tab in my work notebook. Trying to merge the two is an exercise in negotiating their differences. Evernote is vastly different: Notes can be contained in different notebooks, which essentially are just buckets of files. Importing Evernote files into OneNote also exposed one of the key differences between the two services: design. OneNote looks like a physical notebook with tabbed sections. Microsoft expects to gather feedback from users after releasing the beta importer, and it will use that information to improve the tool. And there’s a lot of room for improvement. We’re pleased to announce that we’ve added note importing to our desktop app for Windows, Linux, and macOS: now it’s super-easy to import notes from other services, including Evernote, so all your ideas and links and snippets are in one place.People who have lots of notes that fit those criteria are probably best off waiting for Microsoft to improve the tool. The standard version of the app available in the Mac App Store doesn’t support importing yet.) (A quick note, Mac users! To use the importer, make sure you’re using the Electron version of the app, available here. (Not sure how to get your stuff out of Evernote? Here are the instructions on exporting.) To get started, select File → Import Notes from the app menu, then pick the type of notes you’ll be importing. You can browse to the notes you want to import or drag and drop a file into the import window, and the app takes care of the rest.

When you run the OneNote Importer tool, it finds any Evernote content on your computer and sends it to OneNote. If you’re importing notes with Markdown and you’d like to keep them that way, check the Enable Markdown on all notes box and they’ll be automatically configured as a Markdown note in Simplenote. You can choose any Microsoft Account to use with OneNote, no matter if it’s a personal Hotmail, or account. In case you do not have Evernote installed, you can also select the Evernote export file in. This release also adds a lot of great enhancements and bug fixes.

For more details, check out the release notes on GitHub. Go to Select Evernote content tab and select your notebooks. We hope you enjoy this update, and happy noting (and importing!). You can either import all of them or import only one or two as you wish.
